Why Speed Is Important | Whitespace blog
"People do not like to wait. Do not make them"

We've suspected it for a long time now Google have acknowledged that faster hosting plays an important part in getting you to the top of Google listings.
According to Google a 0.5 second delay in the page load speed of your website can reduce traffic by 20%. Since Google and therefore SEO are all about delivering a strong customer experience, so it rewards websites that help it to achieve this. Part of this means valuing loading speed of pages, particularly the landing page from Google listed adverts. If a link loads slowly Google will score it lower and this in turn costs you and us, the advertisers, more. So it is imperative to include speedy servers in your SEM strategy.
Google Vice President Marissa Mayer said in her last Web 2.0 Conference "speed matters. People do not like to wait. Do not make them".
