Whitespace Launches Middlesex University's Interactive Experience | Whitespace blog
Forget YouTube and iPlayer

Forget You Tube and iPlayer, MDX Play will be the multimedia website to click on next term for Middlesex University students.
The University and Whitespace have just launched a new site that combines video and audio for students, staff and public alike. MDX Play, provides a portal to upload and watch videos and listen to podcasts. It aims to capture and reflect campus life at Middlesex.
A spokesman for the University said:
“We are really excited about MDX Play. This is the first time the multimedia production of various groups at Middlesex has been drawn together in this way. We’re aiming to provide an interesting and useful tool for Middlesex students, staff and the public who can really get involved in this interactive element of our website and wherever we can, we look to employ Middlesex students to put their newly acquired specialties to good use.” He added: “We hope it will also give a good idea of campus life to anyone who looks at it.”
Whitespace were responsible for planning, design, and build as well as naming and identity development.
Phil Barnes, Interactive Director at Whitespace added.
"The Whitespace remit was to allow Middlesex University to showcase their offerings online and reach out to new markets without facing the inherent physical constraints and limitations stemming from the geography of data as it is distributed across the globe. With widespread adoption of online video and other rich media content, delivering this content reliably, quickly and making it accessible is challenging but it’s made much easier when there are knowledgeable project teams on both sides. This allowed Whitespace to focus on delivering a first class solution utilizing the most up to date web technology available, making Middlesex University a formidable presence in the rich media community. The end result is a highly available, extremely fast rich media distribution network that showcases Middlesex University at a higher level, increasing participation and community aspects through social media initiatives."
